phantom boob pains?

the last couple of days have been ROUGH.  all sorts of nausea and barfing.  adventures in (non)bathing and hair washing.  not sleeping.

today was FINALLY a good day!  woke up without nausea and felt pretty good.  except having slept in the recliner and still having drains, that is.  we had an appointment with the surgeon at a decent hour of the morning so we got up and at 'em fairly quickly.  i attempted to brush my hair head sideways as much as possible and with my left hand.  i said i TRIED.  i didn't say it was pretty! and then washed my face and put on somewhat normal clothes.  pinned the drains up in my shirt.  my saddle bags.  sister in law came over to put my hair in a ponytail i live with boys.  the hair fixin' job has to be contracted out! and took Little Dude to play with her while we went to the doctor.

i can't wear a seatbelt right now so i slid into the backseat with my purple unicorn pillow pet my daddy got it for me in the hospital.  so cute. and off we went.  y'all.  i SWEAR my Love chose the bumpiest roads in town!  but, being the prepared folks we are, i had taken pain meds at a time where they just kicked in nicely on the way!  got to the surgeon's and had to stand on my tiptoes to sign in.  the counter is just a *leetle* too high for post mastectomy arm raising!  got called back to see the doctor for a short, but informative, visit.  i'm at stage IIA.  good to know.  only 1 of the 20 lymph nodes they took out was "contaminated" with cancer.  also good to know!  short and to the point, yes?  but i have a question, doc.  i've been having these weird burning sort of rashy feeling pains in my right arm and "boob".  phantom boob pain?  and this stuff HURTS.  like, big time.  what is it?  anyway, a nerve in my arm had to be sacrificed and i'm having pain from it coming back or whatever.  and i just have to deal with it.  and i really, really hate it.  definitely the most painful part of all of this!

going back to the plastic surgeon tomorrow.  hopefully i'll get the last of these dang drains OUT!  having drains means no showers.  and also, no shaving of the pits.  and it's gettin' pretty...uh..."natural" up in here.  ew.  24 hours after drains come out, mama gets a full shower.  yeah buddy!

oh by the way!  i have a practically brand new strapless bra that i won't be using any more neener neener neeeeeener! and a couple of other regular bras i need to get rid of.  any takers?

  1. Vicky, when Kacey died, I literally had the "aching arms" syndrome..i'd heard of phantom pain in missing limbs but this? But it was real. My arms literally ached. So yes, I think phantom boob pain a real option. jeanni
