Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair
that, of course, is from the musical Hair. and you're welcome if you're now singing it. if you're not, i'm sorry 'cause it is a super fun song! look it up but beware! Hair is pretty racy!
so by now we've established that i love my hair. to me, it's more than "just hair" it's...part of me. part of the way i express myself. anyway, for years and years i've been growing it out and cutting it off for donation. probably...4 or 5 times. it takes a long time to grow it out! and i usually have between chin and shoulder length hair even after a donation cut. currently, i'm in the "grow it out" phase of the process. because i'll have chemo and the likelihood that i'll lose my hair is pretty high, i plan on cutting it before we start. i'll be cutting it *super* short and donating what i cut.
now i don't want to sound like i'm lecturing or anything but...as i've been doing this for quite a few years, i've researched different organizations who take hair donations. i know the one you're thinking i don't want to mention the name! and i did donate to them a time or two. but as i got more into it, i found another organization that i thought might be better for *my* donation. Pantene you know, the shampoo? has Pantene Beautiful Lengths. they donate wigs to the American Cancer Society wig banks. my hospital has a wig bank that i'll be borrowing from! maybe i'll get some of my own hair back! haha! knowing that and going through all of this, i feel even more strongly that i made the right decision for my hair donations.
all this to say, PLEASE consider donating your hair! especially if you've already got long hair and just can't stand it anymore. do your own research and decide where you feel your donation needs to go. different organizations have different requirements for length, etc. but consider it...please!
my guys needed hair cuts this weekend. i usually do it. easier and cheaper. my Love did Little Dude's on Saturday morning. he's such a cute little guy! but i couldn't do my Love's since i can't move very well and arm movement is restricted. he was supposed to get his mom to do it. but then he told he he's going to try and grow it out to donate. i'm grinning like a crazy person right now, btw. so if you see my Love out and about and he looks like a shaggy dog, don't make fun. shake his hand. tell him he's doing a good thing. encourage him. know that it's for a good cause!
I think I'm gonna cry. JEarl's hair will make a beautiful wig.
ReplyDeletei should add that it takes 6-8 donations to make a wig! we need lots of y'all to donate!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I can't wait to see him with long hair. I have heard a lot about the pantene donation and people love donating to them. Love ya!
